Mahabharata 35
Ramayana 35
Two great works! First brought to life in 1955. Retold for the modern reader. Marvelous renditions. Read these when I was a teenager. If you enjoyed tales of the Arabian nights, these are the originals!

Mahabharata 3rd , 35th edition by Buck, William (2012) Paperback Unknown Binding

Originally published in the year 1951, the huge popularity of the book has resulted in the book being re-printed several times. Centuries ago, it was proclaimed of the "What is not in it, is nowhere." But even now, we can use the same words about it. He who knows it not, knows not the heights and depths of the soul; he misses the trials and tragedy and the beauty and grandeur of life. The Mahabharata is not a mere epic; it is a romance telling the tale of heroic men and women, and of some who were divine. It is a whole literature in itself, containing a code of life, a philosophy of social and ethical relations, and speculative thought on human problems that is hard to rival.

Book is in fine shape. While I would like the full Mahabharata, this comprises a good portion. I have several copies of the Gita.

Not only was the physical book in perfect condition, this timeless epic has been a joy to read. I bought it to read for a class, but will enjoy rereading my favorite stories to family and friends. I highly recommend reading this important and inspiring story.

Great storytelling in a comprehensive version of the Mahabharata. I only wish that the Bhagavad Gita (part of the Mahabharata) were better represented.

This book omits so many details that the actions of people in the story become inexplicable, e.g., when Jayadratha is chased by Pandavas for harassing Draupadi. Even names used are uncommon if not totally wrong, e.g., God of wealth. I understand that its a tough task for a person not too familiar with the culture but so many omissions make this book at best just a primer.
